SAN JOSE (BCN) -- Two eighth grade students at a San Jose middle school became ill Friday morning after eating what may have been marijuana-laced cookies, a district spokeswoman said.

The two female students at Castillero Middle School, located at 6384 Leyland Park Drive, were found nauseous and vomiting at around 10 a.m., San Jose Unified School District spokeswoman Karen Fuqua said.

The two students were transported to hospitals and staff at the school have launched an investigation to see where the cookies came from and who was involved in bringing them to school, Fuqua said.

She said everything had been confiscated and accounted for from the students as of this afternoon.

"All the children are safe at this point," she said.

"We haven't had a report back from the hospital but what we're hearing is we don't think that there's anything critical with the children," Fuqua said.

She said that while the substance in the cookies had not been identified, school officials suspect that the cookies may have contained marijuana.
