OAKLAND (KRON) -- A suspected car thief is getting medical treatment after he flipped the vehicle on Interstate 880 near the Oakland/Alameda County Coliseum and was then tased by the police.
Investigators say officers spotted the stolen vehicle on Hegenberger Road near I-880 just before noon Friday and gave chase. The suspect led them onto the freeway and then flipped the vehicle near 66th Avenue, authorities say.
One person was inside the vehicle. When he tried to get out of the white car, Oakland police officers tased him and took him into custody.
The accident and subsequent investigation caused a huge traffic backup in both directions on I-880 in front of the Coliseum. Other than the suspect, there are no reports of injuries.
