MORAGA (KRON) -- St. Mary's University isn't saying much about reports the NCAA is conducting an investigation of possible rule violations in connection with recruiting in the school's Men's basketball program.
"St. Mary's college and the NCAA have been working cooperatively on a matter relating to the Men's Basketball Program," University spokesman Michael McAlpin says. "To respect the integrity of that process we have no further comment at this time."
Both Athletic Director Mark Orr and Head Men's Basketball Coach Randy Bennett were unavailable to discuss the reports. The university also isn't commenting on Bennett's absence from three recruiting evaluations in July and whether those absences were related to the investigation or the coach's recent back surgery.
There are also published reports that investigators have spoken with former Gaels' Asst. Coach David Patrick about the allegations. Patrick is now on the staff at LSU.
St. Mary's has enjoyed remarkable success in recent years in basketball including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2010.
