Two Dead, One Critically Injured When Suspect Crashes While Fleeing Police in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) --A suspect is in custody after allegedly killing two innocent bystanders when he crashed into a store at 21st Street and Van Ness Avenue while attempting to flee officers, said an official with the San Francisco Police Department.
At about 7:45 a.m., police received a report about shots fired from a vehicle close to the Valencia Gardens housing complex in the at 14th Street and Guerrero streets in the Mission District, police said.
When officers arrived, they saw a potential suspect vehicle at 21st and Mission streets and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed, police said.
The suspect vehicle, headed east on 21st street from Mission street then collided with another vehicle that was driving northbound on South Van Ness two blocks away, police said.
The impact of the crash sent the two people in the victim vehicle into the Muzio's Wines & Liquor store at the northeast corner of 21st and South Van Ness, police said.
At the same time, the victim vehicle smashed into a pedestrian who happened to be entering the store, police said.
A female passenger in the victim vehicle and the pedestrian were both pronounced dead at the scene and the vehicle's male driver was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where he was reported suffering from life-threatening injuries, police said.
A firearm was recovered from the suspect vehicle, police said.
The person driving the suspect vehicle was placed under arrest in connection with the two deaths and a firearm possession charge, police said.
The suspect, whose was not immediately being released, was undergoing treatment for injuries at the hospital, police said.
All three of the innocent victims in the accident are in their 20s, police said.
