State Court Rules San Jose Cardroom Dealers Must Share Tips With Other Employees

SAN JOSE (AP) -- A state appeals court says a San Jose casino can force its cardroom dealers to share tips with other employees.
The Contra Costa Times says the 6th District Court of Appeal ruled Wednesday that state law permits Bay 101 and other casinos to enforce tip-pooling.
The dealers, who earn up to $1,500 a week in tips, sued the casino in 2006. They argued that Bay 101 was illegally seizing their tips by forcing them to share some of their tips with hundreds of other employees, including food and hair salon workers.
A judge dismissed the suit in 2011 and the appeals court agreed.
The dealers can now appeal to the California Supreme Court.
