OAKLAND (BCN) -- A suspect is in custody in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old man shortly after the popular First Friday event in downtown Oakland on Friday night, police said.
Oakland police said the suspect was arrested in East Oakland at 7:21 p.m. Saturday but they didn't release the man's name because the case has now been turned over to then Alameda County District Attorney's Office to consider filing charges against him.
Police said Kiante Campbell of Oaklnd was killed in the shooting in the 2000 block of Telegraph Avenue at about 10:49 p.m. Friday. Three other people were wounded and were treated at local hospitals for injuries not considered life-threatening.
The motive for the shooting is unclear at this time, police said.
The First Friday event attracts large crowds to downtown Oakland the first Friday of every month and is an offshoot of Art Murmur, a gallery walk that occurs earlier on the same night.
