SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Windsor Unified School District spokesperson Sheryl Feldman says that a 17-year-old male student from Windsor High School survived after jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge Wednesday morning.
The student was walking on the bridge with classmates and two teachers, Feldman said, when he jumped at approximately 11:15 a.m. CHP officials say that friends may have dared him to jump but students who were there tell KRON 4 News that he did for "thrills."
Approximately 45 students were there, according to Feldman.
Surfers helped the student to the shoreline where he was able to climb from the water on his own, Feldman said.
The student was medically examined and no severe injuries have been reported, Feldman said. Parents of students on the field trip have been notified and counselors are on hand.
