OAKLAND (BCN) -- Former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman William "Bubba" Paris is facing misdemeanor charges in Oakland's federal court for  failing to file income tax returns.

Paris, 52, of Discovery Bay, was charged by federal prosecutors on  Monday with willfully failing to file returns for the tax years 2006, 2007 and 2008.

He is scheduled to be arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Kandis Westmore in Oakland on March 4.

Paris played for the 49ers from 1983 through 1990, during a time  when the team won three Super Bowl championships.

Paris now works as a motivational speaker, and is also a poet and  an ordained evangelist minister, according to his website,  www.bubbaparis.org.

The federal charges allege that the former football player  received income of $57,187 in 2006; $83,856 in 2007; and $41,700 in 2008, but  failed to file returns for those years.

If Paris is convicted, the maximum penalty for each count is one  year in prison, but a judge would consider federal sentencing guidelines  before determining a penalty.
