SAN BRUNO & EL DORADO HILLS (KRON) -- Two Sacramento area teenagers accused of murdering a parent will spend the next few days in custody in San Mateo County after their arrest Wednesday morning near the AT&T shop at the San Bruno Towne Center.
14-year old Tylar Witt and her 19-year-old boyfriend Steven Colver were taken into custody Wednesday morning.
"It looks like they were sleeping or camping just outside this store," El Dorado County Sheriff's Captain Craig Therkildsen told a Wednesday afternoon news conference. "It's conjecture but that's probably what drew San Bruno PD's attention to them."
Witnesses say the two teens were dressed all in black when they were taken into custody. Authorities conducted a crime scene search at a gargabe area adjacent to the store where the suspected killers may have been in hiding.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's department had issued an arrest warrant for the pair after deputies found the body of the girl's mother, 47-year-old Joanne Witt in her upscale El Dorado Hills home on Monday. Police believe she had been dead for several days.
"We know only now that she didn't show up to work on Thursday or Friday or throughout the weekend," Captain Therkildsen said. "We checked the residence a little after 9:00 on Monday morning and discovered the deceased."
San Francisco Police found the car the two teens were driving in the City Tuesday. Captain Therkildsen made a point of thanking police in San Francisco and San Bruno for their help in finding the fugitives. He also thanked the news media for getting the word out about the two accused killers.
The victim's remaining family members have learned about the arrest.
"They're devastated by the news in general," the captain said.
