Napa Officials Hope Likeness Helps ID 'Jane Doe'
Created by Kimberlee Sakamoto on 6/23/2009 4:28:00 PM

NAPA, Calif. (AP) - Napa County sheriff's investigators are hoping a bust created from the remains of an unidentified homicide victim will prompt someone who knew her to come forward.

The head and shoulders of the black, middle-aged woman were unveiled Tuesday. She had a black hair weave, acrylic fingernails and was wearing an olive green polo shirt when her body was discovered near Lake Berryessa on Mother's Day. Napa authorities believe she was from Northern California and think she was killed between six months to a year before her remains were found.

The bust was made by a Mill Valley forensic artist, who relied on the depth of tissue at certain parts of the skull to approximate the woman's features.

Investigators have searched missing persons databases with no luck.
