OAKLAND (KRON) -- A ton of fireworks police say they found in an Oakland home won't be creating a spectacle or a fire danger this Fourth of July weekend.
"What we have here is half of the material confiscated by the Oakland Police Department," Alameda County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson showed KRON 4's Haaziq Madyun. "The other portion is here in this van. When you put the two together you literally have a ton of fireworks. Given the fact that it was in a neighborhood with wood frame constructed homes, no fire suppression system, had all of this gone off it would have been a disaster in that neighborhood."
65-year old Gabriel Bueno and his son are in jail charged with possession of explosive devices and illegal firearms. Police and the Alameda County Sheriff's bomb squad say they seized the fireworks and an assault rifle after raiding the house on 40th Avenue Tuesday evening. Officials say these are far from the "safe and sane" fireworks you can buy at the local stand. The seizures include M-1000 and SR-80 rockets, "Super Artillery Shells", and something called "Reapers Doom Magnum Shells."
Bueno remains in jail on $165,000 bond.
