Former Oakland Administrator Sues Over Her Firing
Created by Kimberlee Sakamoto on 7/8/2009 12:20:00 PM

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Oakland's former city administrator is suing over her termination by the city.

Deborah Edgerly was fired July 1, 2008 over allegations that she interfered with a police investigation after her nephew was arrested in a sweep of suspected gang members.

Shortly after her termination, federal investigators subpoenaed the personnel records of Edgerly and five other city employees, though no charges were ever filed.

In a complaint filed in Alameda County Superior Court, Edgerly claims that her firing was retaliatory because of disagreements with Mayor Ron Dellums over questionable expenditures that she was asked to approve, as well as personnel changes she was told to make.

City officials declined to comment on the suit.
