Involuntary Manslaughter Charge Filed in Windsor Beating Death
Created by Kimberlee Sakamoto on 7/8/2009 6:21:00 PM

SANTA ROSA (BCN) -- A Windsor man was charged in Sonoma County Superior Court Wednesday afternoon with the involuntary manslaughter of a man he allegedly fought with the night before the victim died.

Arthur Marquez delayed entering a plea and will appear in court July 17. He is being held in the Sonoma County jail under $30,000 bail.

He also faces a violation of probation charge regarding a separate misdemeanor battery case.

Marquez was arrested July 2 for the murder of Dennis Dempsey Jr., 49, of Windsor. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department said the men were in a fight around 9 p.m. July 1 and Dempsey died around 4:30 a.m. July 2.

An autopsy determined Dempsey had suffered bruises on the head and torso and suffered massive abdominal hemorrhage from a lacerated spleen consistent with blunt force trauma.

This is so sad to see. I went to school with Dennis Dempsey, I am shocked to read this. People we have to all get along. We have very good law enforcement in this county and a life could have been saved if the police were notified and stop all this foolishness. I am so disapointed that we can't all just get along.
