Review Launched into Handling of Phillip Garrido's Parole
Created by Kimberlee Sakamoto on 9/1/2009 2:05:00 PM

CONCORD (KRON) –  A spokesperson with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation tells KRON 4 that they’re conducting a “top to bottom review” of how Phillip Garrido’s parole was handled.

Garrido is chaged with kidnapping and raping Jaycee Lee Dugard 18 years ago.

Officials say a Concord-based parole agent made routine visits to Garrido’s Walnut Avenue Home in Antioch. Until last week, however, the agent was unaware that he had two daughters, who he allegedly had with Dugard.

The parole agent reportedly visited Garrido at least twice a month. While specific details about the home visits are being withheld, so as not to jeopardize the prosecution of the suspect and his wife Nancy, authorities say agents usually make both announced and unannounced visits. Parolees are also required to visit the Concord parole office.

As an 11-year-old, Dugard was snatched from a bus stop in South Lake Tahoe. Now 29, she was reunited with her family last week.

Authorities say she bonded with her kidnappers and helped manage the suspect’s printing business. Dugard and the two girls, now 11 and 15, were allegedly kept hostage in a soundproof shed in Garrido’s backyard.

Garrido and his wife, Nancy, have pleaded not guilty to the abduction, rape and imprisonment of Dugard.

For the parole officer
Stupid Lazy Ignorant Incompetent What else? I wonder why polices did not include Gerrido name as a suspect of Jaycee 's case since 18 years ago. Now, polices should search more on criminal records of sex offenders for other kidnap cases.

I can't express in words how sorry I am for Jaycee and her daughters to have been subjected to such torture and pain. The system failed them. There has to be swift changes in California's Correctional System, to ensure other children and women don't suffer the same fate that Jaycee and Garrido's other victims did. If you are going to let these monsters out of prison and not monitor what is going on in their homes and make a thorough check inside and out, there will be other people thinking that they can do the same thing and get away with it for 18 years like he did. It is disgusting, and I am ashamed that the system is so flawed. It is a travesty, and I am so grateful that they have been found alive, and have a chance to have a happy future with their family, where they belong.

Also a Parole Agent

Lazy
I can tell you how. The parole agents were lazy. Walk in front door, stay 5 minutes, and walk out. Lazy agent that never did a parole search on this animal. I know, because I am an agent. Everyone on this, including federal was just plain lazy.
