RICHMOND (KRON) -- Members of a task force investigating more than 20 recent vehicle fires in Contra Costa County aren't yet ready to say the two fires discovered Tuesday night into Friday morning are related to the other vehicles that have caught fire in the area.
The first fire happened at about midnight at 12th and Roosevelt Streets in Richmond. About two hours later another car caught on fire near 42nd at Center Street.
"There's several agencies working together on this case because the fires are being started in different areas, really close together in some instances but the cities are different," Richmond Police Sgt. Bisa French told KRON 4's Jackie Sissel. "For example, El Sobrante. So we have the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department and the Contra Costa County Fire District. We have the Richmond Police Department and the Richmond Fire Department and with the fires from yesterday we have the San Pablo Police Department. We're all working together to hopefully try to find the common suspect."
No one has been hurt in any of the recent car fires. Officials remain concerned that the blazes could spread from the vehicles to nearby homes and businesses.
