Second Suspect Pleads No Contest in Bus Stop Shooting
Created by Kimberlee Sakamoto on 11/19/2009 12:39:00 PM

SANTA ROSA (BCN) -- The second of two men charged with shooting toward a crowded bus  stop in March 2006, injuring two teens, pleaded no contest Thursday in Sonoma  County Superior Court to attempted murder.

Luis Guerrero-Lopez, 22, also pleaded no contest to assault with a  deadly weapon and being a member of a street gang, and agreed to a prison  term of 23 years. He will be sentenced in January.

Guerrero-Lopez's co-defendant, Jose Hugo Galicia, 22, of Glen  Ellen, also pleaded no contest in September to attempted murder, assault with  a deadly weapon and being a gang member. He was sentenced in October to 28  years in prison.

Both men had been charged with 11 counts of attempted murder, 12  counts of assault with a firearm, gang and weapons enhancements and a  separate charge of being a street gang member. Each pleaded no contest to one  count on each charge.

Santa Rosa police said Galicia and Guerrero-Lopez pulled up to a  bus stop at Hopper Avenue and Airway Drive in Santa Rosa in a Cadillac  Escalade at about 1:45 p.m. on March 17, 2006

One of the two men got out of the car and fired several shots,  striking a 15-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, police said. Both victims  survived. The prosecution alleged Galicia fired the weapon.

The victims attended Airway Community School, a school for middle  and high school students who have been expelled or suspended from other high  schools.

The shooting was believed to be in retaliation for the shooting of  a 15-year-old girl by two alleged rival gang members on Stony Point Road in  Santa Rosa five days earlier.
