Created by Kimberlee Sakamoto on 11/30/2009 11:52:00 AM

SONOMA COUNTY (BCN) -- The California Highway Patrol's Santa Rosa office is collecting  new, unwrapped toys for children between 1 and 12 years old.

The toys can be dropped off at the CHP's office at 6100 Labath  Ave. in Rohnert Park.

The CHP will collect toys at the Kmart store in Petaluma and hold  a free child safety seat inspection on Friday.

"The 'ChiP's for Kids' program is something we do every year,"  Capt. Kelly Young said.

"With so many in our Sonoma County community feeling the strain of  the economy this year, we want to double our efforts to see that kids  especially are not left behind during the holidays," Young said.

For more information contact Officer Jon Sloat at (707) 588-1400.
