32-Year old John Detches is charged with assault with intent to commit rape and kidnapping in connection with a series of attacks on women on Stevens Creek Trail
MOUNTAIN VIEW (KRON) -- A 32-year old San Jose man is in custody in connection with at least three attacks on women on jogging trails in Mountain View and Sunnyvale.

Mountain View police arrested John Detches Sunday on the Stevens Creek trail after noting he matched the description given by three women who said they had been attacked in the preceding few weeks.  Detches is being held in the San Jose jail without bail on charges of kidnapping, and assault with intent to commit rape.

The investigation began on November 29th when a woman says a man picked her up off the trail and forcibly tried to carry her into some nearby bushes.  She was able to fight the man off and escape unharmed.

While looking into that case, police say they learned about a similar incident on November 12th when a man matching the same description grabbed another woman by the shoulders.  She also managed to get away and saw the man escape on a bicycle.  Sunnyvale police reported another attack on November 25th that later investigation showed actually happened inside the Mountain View city limits.

When police encountered Detches Sunday, they discovered he had an outstanding warrant and was on parole for burglary.  The victim from November 29th reportedly identified Detches as her attacker.  Police say they have other evidence tying him to the other two assaults.

Investigators say it's possible there are other victims who haven't come forward.  If you know about a man matching Detches' description having any contact with a woman on Stevens Creek Trail, contact Mountain View police or your local authorities.
