Created by Brian Shields on 12/9/2009 11:09:00 AM

OAKLAND (KRON) -- BART's 12th Street station is back open after a partial train derailment in the tunnel leading from the Lake Merritt station.

A Richmond bound train came off the rails about 150 feet before reaching 12th Street.  BART officials escorted passengers off the train and into the station.

The Oakland Fire Department also took part in the evacuation.

KRON 4's Haaziq Madyun confirms two people on board the train sustained injuries and were transported by ambulance to a hospital.  There's no word yet on how seriously those people were hurt.

The derailment was reported at about 10:30 a.m.

BART officials say they were able to re-route most of the trains through the area causing only minor delays.  The system is returning to its normal schedule.
