ANTIOCH, Calif. (AP) - Antioch is joining a long list of cities looking at ways to cut costs. Antioch officials say because of declining tax revenues, they need to consider ways to cut millions of dollars from the city's budget. The City Council is set to meet Jan. 13 in a workshop session to identify what areas to trim from the city's $49.2 million general fund budget. Antioch's city manager says the city needs to cut between $4 million and $5 million. The city has put in place a hiring freeze that means 12 vacant positions will remain unfilled. Antioch officials say revenues from property taxes and sales taxes have declined because of a drop in housing prices and cutbacks in consumer spending. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press.
