KRON4 News video journalist Hermela Aregawi comes to the Bay Area after three years in New York City, working as a correspondent and digital producer for Al Jazeera America. There she reported on trending and viral topics and was also a correspondent for the network’s morning show, Your World This Morning.
Previously, Hermela was a presenter and segment producer for both Current TV and The Young Turks online. The popular political news show has more than 3 million subscribers and has surpassed 3 billion views on YouTube. During her time at The Young Turks, Hermela was a part of the award-winning coverage of the 2012 Presidential Election.
She graduated from Emerson College in Boston with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism. While attending, Hermela was chosen to be a college reporter for the 2009 Academy Awards®. Her first job out of school was as an assistant to CBS CEO Leslie Moonves. She has also produced for CBS Daytime shows, Judge Joe Brown and Judge Judy.
Hermela loves to travel and has recently visited Brazil, Portugal, and Italy. She was born in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia and speaks two Ethiopian languages, Amharic and Tigrigna. At the age of seven, Hermela moved to Oxford, MS. She has also lived in Memphis, TN, Boston, MA, and Los Angeles.
