Death of 60-year-old man launches homicide investigation in Walnut Creek

WALNUT CREEK (KRON) --  Police are investigating a homicide that happened Thursday night in Walnut Creek.

KRON4’s Lydia Pantazes is at the Walnut Creek Police Department, which is less than a mile from the scene.

She says around 6:52 p.m., police received a phone call about a disturbance and possible assault at a construction site in the 1800 block of Ygnacio Valley Rd.

Officers goth there within seven minutes, but quickly determined that the initial report of the location was incorrect.

Officers eventually determined that the incident occurred somewhere near the 1800 block of Lacassie Ave. and responded to that location.

Police say they found the 60-year old victim around 7:19 p.m. with life threatening injuries. They tried to save his life, but he died at the scene. His identity was not released.

Police detained a 34-year old man at the scene, but they are not calling him a suspect at this time.

That man and other witnesses are being interviewed.

Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to call the Walnut Creek Police Department.
