NWS issues Gale Warning for Bay Area

OCEAN BEACH (KRON) - Bay Area temperatures are heating up on Saturday, so many people may be heading to the beach for Mother's Day weekend.

But there's a warning for those of you who are thinking of catching some waves.

The Gale Warning put out by the National Weather Service says waves could get up to 20 feet Saturday morning in the Bay Area.

People are asked to be extremely cautious out on the coast.

A Gale Warning includes sustained winds from 25 to 35 knots.

These strong winds produce steep wind waves across the waters.

As always, be aware of rip currents and never turn your back to the ocean when in the water.

Right now there are about four-foot waves at Ocean Beach, the least of the strong gale conditions.

Places like Point Reyes and Half Moon Bay will see the largest waves.
