East Bay student accused of sexual assault during water polo game

ALAMEDA (KRON) -- Police are investigating an alleged sexual battery incident that happened during a water polo game between two East Bay high schools last month.

A Berkeley High School player is accused of touching or grabbing the genital area of an Encinal High School player during the game on Oct. 11, according to Lieutenant Hoshmand Durani with the Alameda Police Department.

Encinal High School reported the alleged assault the next day to Alameda police.

Police say that it is unknown if this act was intentional or accidental. Water polo is a physical sport in which players often grab onto each other.

Both the alleged victim and suspect are juveniles.
