Fire Officials: Rescue teams pull body from Oakland Estuary

OAKLAND (KRON) -- Dive teams were searching for a car that fell into the Oakland Estuary Sunday morning, according to reports from multiple agencies.

By 10:30 a.m. officials reported they were pulling a body from the water.

The victim was in the water for up to two hours before being found by rescuers.

Authorities later confirmed the victim, 68-year-old Paul Scherer, was deceased.

Crews from San Francisco Fire assisted Oakland fire crews in the search and rescue.

The incident was first reported on Twitter at 8:53 a.m.

Officials say a truck went off the side of the Fruitvale Bridge and into the water.

It appears the driver was the only person inside the car.
