North Bay high school football team impacted by firestorm loses championship game

ROHNERT PARK (KRON)--It's been nearly two months since a football team lost their high school in the North Bay Firestorm and on Saturday they were back on the field.

Santa Rosa's Cardinal Newman Football team fought hard and made it to the championship game against Marin Catholic.

KRON4's Ella Sogomonian was on the sideline and says in just seconds the team scored the first touchdown.

A thrilled crowd cheered for the team who's had to go above and beyond to make it to the championship game. Cardinal Newman lost their hometown and high school when the Tubbs Fire ripped through the area.

Saturday night's game signified a great deal for the team. In the end, Marin Catholic won the game 59-56.
