Officials: 1 person killed in Alameda house fire

ALAMEDA (KRON) -- One person is dead after a one-alarm house fire in Alameda Monday morning.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire in a single-story house on the 2300 block of Eagles Avenue at around 5:50 a.m., according to Alameda Fire Department.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke was coming from the home, officials said.

They noticed the fire had spread around the first floor and to the basement.

Neighbors told firefighters there may be someone trapped inside.

Crews entered the burning home, fighting through thick smoke until they got to the person inside.

At around 6:15 a.m., they found the victim toward the back of the house.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire was out by 6:25 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
