Two people arrested in gang-related shooting in Napa

Bay City News Service - NAPA (BCN) -- Napa police arrested two Sureno gang members on suspicion of shooting at parked cars during a confrontation with two rival Norteno gang members last month.

Jose Manuel Alcala, 23, and Valentin Michael Sanchez, 18, both of Napa, are suspected of driving in two vehicles to the area of Riverside Drive on May 30 to search for the rival Norteno gang members to retaliate for a prior gang-related incident, police Lt. Debbie Peecook said.

Alcala and Sanchez found three Norteno gang members, including Ismael Carrillo, of Napa, in the 1000 block of Pine Street around 10:40 p.m., Peecook said.

During a brief confrontation gang challenges were yelled and Alcala fired three shots with a handgun that missed Carrillo, but hit two parked cars, Peecook said.

Napa police served search warrants at six locations, including Alcala's and Sanchez's homes on June 5. Alcala was stopped while he was driving a dark green Toyota Camry that was used in the shooting, Peecook said.

During a search of Alcala's home on Moffitt Drive, police found several ounces of marijuana stored in an area accessible to children, a scale, packaging and three firearms, one of which was stolen in Vallejo, Peecook said.

Alcala was arrested on drug and other charges related to the shooting and was booked in the Napa County Jail.

Sanchez, who previously was arrested at his residence on Pueblo Avenue for possession of brass knuckles and participation in a gang, was arrested Saturday in the Napa County Jail in connection with the shooting on May 30, Peecook said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Napa police detective Adam Davis at (707) 257-9437.
