Two women arrested for mail theft thanks to alert Pleasanton citizen

PLEASANTON (KRON) -- Two women were arrested for mail theft and drug possession thanks to an alert Pleasanton citizen who witnessed the crime.

On Friday at 1:20 a.m., an alert citizen on Angus Way called Pleasanton Police Dispatch reporting a woman carrying a lot of mail.

The citizen told police that he confronted a female in his front yard who was carrying a large amount of mail. The female fled to a waiting vehicle as the citizen called 9-1-1 and provided the vehicle and suspect description.

Within a minute, Officer Rich Trovao located the vehicle leaving the residential area and conducted a traffic stop. Inside the vehicle, officers located stolen property, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and stolen mail and credit cards from victims in Pleasanton and San Joaquin County. Officers also followed a trail of mail on the route the vehicle took leaving the residential area, which was discarded by the suspects as they fled.

Both occupants, 30-year-old Tiffany Pigg and 28-year-old Alicia Davis are from Stockton. They were arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges of mail theft and drug possession.

The Pleasanton Police Department depends on the relationships they have with the community to stay alert and immediately call them if suspicious activity is observed.

The Pleasanton Police Department also emphasizes that thieves are opportunistic and prey on people who leave their property unsecured and valuables in their vehicles. A very high percentage of thefts are from vehicles that are unsecured. Pleasanton Police ask the community to help them in keeping everyone safe by taking simple steps to secure property.
