$20M grant awarded to extend BART from San Jose to Santa Clara

SACRAMENTO (KRON)—California Senator Jim Beall and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has received a $20 million California Transportation Agency grant to extend BART to San Jose to the Santa Clara Caltrain Station.

“This grant represents a down payment on a long-term commitment by the state to help fund the most important and transformative mass transportation project in Silicon Valley’s history,’’ Beall said.

The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund/Transit and Intercity Rail Program made this grant possible. This measure was signed into California state law last year and was proposed by Beall.

The bill allows grant funding and financial certainty for public transportation projects within the state.
