Looking for a pet? Albino hamsters are up for adoption!

They were found dumped in a parking lot at Tanforan Mall in San Bruno and are now at the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA.

A Good Samaritan brought the hamsters to the humane society after witnessing people in a truck dump two glass tanks in a shopping cart.

“We are very grateful to the individual who brought the abandoned hamsters to us,” PHS/SPCA’s Communications Manager Buffy Martin Tarbox said.  “Thanks to her, the hamsters were saved and we are now able to find new and loving homes for them.

There were 14 hamsters to begin. Two have already been adopted.

They are only $10 to bring home.

Tarbox says they are dwarf hamsters, which make ideal pets and have a lifespan of three years.

“Not only are hamsters adorable, they make good pets and can be very affectionate,” Tarbox said.  “They are most active during the night time, so if you’re a light sleeper, it’s best to not keep their cage in a bedroom, and always make sure the hamsters are separated by gender to prevent unwanted litters.”
