SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Skies may be mostly dry Thursday, with just a slight chance of brief midday showers. But as crews still work to repair roads and return electricity to many parts of the Bay Area, forecasters see a cold front arriving for the weekend followed by at least a couple days of wind and rain.

“A cool but sunny weekend awaits us which is very welcome,” explained KRON4 Meteorologist Kyla Grogan. “Unfortunately, as we move into next week, we have another stormy system moving our way.”

While Thursday and Friday appear to be mostly clear from any severe weather, overnight Friday into Saturday morning will see colder than normal temperatures with frost expected in the North Bay as well as south in Monterey and San Benito counties.

The expected cold front could arrive as early as Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service, with near record low temperatures possible. A frost advisory for the North Bay and Central Valley begins Friday morning and will continue through the weekend.

“In the nearer term, we also have some very chilly overnights as we head into the weekend,” said Grogan. “A Frost Advisory has been issued for 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings with the coldest morning likely early Sunday.” 

That will repeat overnight into Sunday morning and Sunday evening, with the South Bay joining the frost fray, according to the National Weather Service. On Monday and Tuesday, forecasters call for wind and rain to blanket the entire Bay Area.

“While we’re a little too far out to get specific on rain totals, what I do feel confident in saying is that the Bay Area will once again be looking out for rain and wind later Monday into Tuesday as a deep trough develops along the West Coast,” said Grogan. “It is fair to say that at this point in the season, we should start to see this stormy pattern relent, but at least for the upcoming week, we’re back in it.”
