SACRAMENTO (KRON) — Posing outside the state capitol, Jessica Biel instagrammed a photo after meeting with state lawmakers, speaking out against California’s vaccination bill, SB276.
The bill would give the department of health the power over doctors to determine who is exempt from childhood vaccines. Biel, bringing star power to a side of the heated debate, writing she supports vaccinations in children but she met with lawmakers.
“Not because I don’t believe in vaccinations, but because I believe in giving doctors and the families they treat the ability to decide what’s best for their patients and the ability to provide that treatment.”
Leah Russin is the director of Vaccinate California.
“Jessica Biel was able to get meetings with several assemblymembers,” she said. “But I really, really hope they’re hearing the voices of the parents who rely on this legislation to be able to send their kids to school safely.”
Biel’s Sacramento visit comes days ahead of a hearing on the bill in the Assembly Health Committee Thursday.
According to the legislative calendar testimony will be limited, but opponents and supporters are expected to show up in droves.
