GILROY, Calif. (KRON) — Shots have been fired on the scene of a barricaded suspect involving a weapon in Gilroy that began on Sunday morning, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

As of 6:30 p.m., the suspect has been taken into custody. A shelter-in-place was issued for the surrounding neighborhood, but that has now since been lifted.

The suspect was in the 3000 block of Dryden Avenue near Bishop Court, according to the sheriff’s office. Shots have been fired at deputies, the sheriff’s office says.

The emergency response and crisis negotiation teams were both on-site using deescalation tactics to find a peaceful resolution, according to the sheriff’s office. Community members were asked to avoid the area if possible.
