East Bay cafe serving up more than just coffee

To Keba Konte, there’s no such thing as a simple cup of coffee.

Konte is the owner of Red Bay Coffee with a few locations around Oakland.

He’s an artist, whose first foray into coffee was the Guerilla Cafe in Berkeley in 2005. The cafe was a chance to showcase his art, which focuses on themes in Black culture.

“My mother was a photographer. My dad was a carpenter,” Konte said. “I got my mother’s eye and my father’s hand”

He decided to take his art and coffee to another level— from serving coffee to actually roasting it and expanding his creative juices along the way.
