OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — A fire broke out Thursday evening in the area of Oakland’s Lake Merritt, the Oakland Fire Department confirmed. OFD listed the address as 1200 Lakeshore Avenue and said the fire was first reported at 7:30 p.m.

The fire was located at an encampment, officials said, and was 100 feet by 10 feet in size. Approximately 22 firefighters battled the fire. The fire was contained approximately 45 minutes after the initial calls. It was extinguished late Thursday.

OFD confirmed that one person was displaced due to the fire. The cause of the fire was unknown as of 10:00 p.m. Nobody was injured in the fire.

In March, two dogs died in a recreational vehicle fire that happened in Oakland. No human injuries were reported, but five people were displaced.
