A family of three who died while driving near Tahoe during the powerful Bay Area storm Tuesday night has been identfied.

The CHP says 51-year-old Javier Urenda of Fremont was driving a Volvo west on Highway 50 when he lost control of the car and spun into the eastbound lane, striking a Subaru traveling about 65 mph.

Two other passengers — 24-year-old Nancy Jimenez of Stockton and a 1-year-old Cielo Urenda of Fremont — were also killed.

The accident happened near Placerville, California, about 130 miles 9202 kilometers) east of San Francisco.

The CHP says speed and rain-slickened roads appear to have played factors in the accident.

Three others were killed during the storm.
