Investigators believe an engine malfunction may be the reason a Greyhound bus caught fire along eastbound Interstate 580 in Oakland.

The incident was reported around 5:30 p.m. near Hollis Street.

According to a spokesperson for the company, there eight people on board the bus, seven passengers and the driver.

California Highway Patrol officers escorted everyone off the bus and no one was injured.

The bus had departed from San Francisco around 5:05 p.m. and was headed to Los Angeles.

All lanes were closed on the highway but later reopened around 9:30 p.m.
