Manhunt underway for suspect in deadly Oakland hit-and-run

Bay Area

Police have identified and are searching for the suspect in a deadly hit-and-run in Oakland over the weekend.

Oakland police say 27-year-old Rasenoch Allen is responsible for the deaths of 30-year-old Alma Vasquez and her 6-year-old son Angel.

“We don’t want this to happen again, whether he’s still in Oakland or another city, we want to ensure for public safety that he is removed from our streets,” Officer Johnna Watson with Oakland Police Department said.

The two, along with Angel’s 20-year-old uncle, were walking in a marked crosswalk headed to the laundromat Saturday night just before 7:30 p.m. near 26th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard when Allen allegedly hit them and fled the scene.

The car involved, a black Mercedes, was later found abandoned in an area of Oakland.

Friends and neighbors, even strangers continue to stop by a memorial that is growing near the location of the accident.

The call from neighbors for a traffic light or at least a stop sign is not new and the areas city councilman says he will make sure something is done.

“We will definitely put in one of those blinking lights that if you are going to cross and hit the button and the lights start flashing, that’s on possibility,” Councilman Noel Gallo said. “I am doing it along 35 and Fruitvale because I lost other children there as well.”

At this time police say they do not know if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.

A reward up to $25,000 has been offered by the police and crime stoppers for information leading to the suspects’ arrest.

If you see the suspect, call 911 immediately.
