Police in Oakland are searching for a suspect involved in a hit-and-run that killed a woman and her son on Saturday night.

The incident happened around 7:21 p.m. on 26th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

Police say a black two-door Mercedes was driving westbound on Foothill Boulevard and collided into three pedestrians crossing the street at 26th Avenue, in a marked crosswalk.

First responders arrived and provided medical attention to the 30-year-old woman and her 6-year-old son, and a 20-year-old man who is also a relative.

The mother, later identified as Alma Vasquez, and her son Angel Garcia, were taken to a local hospital but died from their injuries. The third victim remains in critical condition.

Authorities later found the car involved in another area of Oakland, but it had been abandoned.

Police say they have a possible identification of a suspect, however, no one is in custody at this time.

It remains unknown if alcohol was involved.

Police continue to investigate the crash. If you have any information, you are asked to call the investigation unit at (510) 777-8540.
