SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Officials are advising the public to avoid Duboce Avenue and Castro Street due to a natural gas leak Wednesday morning. The San Francisco Fire Department has evacuated a one-block radius of the intersection, according to a tweet from Supervisor Aaron Peskin, whose district includes the impacted area.
Emergency crews, including PG&E and the San Francisco Fire Department, are currently on scene after a 16-inch water main break and a natural gas leak occurred, according to SFFD. The water main break built up pressure underground which led to a break in a sewer line and a gas line.
Gas then infiltrated the sewers and underground area, Peskin said.
The earlier threat from the utility disruption has been stabilized, according to a tweet from SFFD. Residual gas smell may continue in the area and first responders remain on the scene. People are advised to continue to avoid the area.

PG&E and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission are on the ground and both are working to vent the underground area, according to Peskin.
“Once completely vented, SFFD will go in (and) check all the residences and SFPUC will dig (and) begin to assess damage with PG&E to determine whether they can both make repairs at the same time,” Peskin said.
No homes have been damaged and no injuries have been reported as a result of the leak, according to a subsequent tweet from Peskin.
Drivers are advised to find alternate routes as traffic delays are expected in the area. SF’s Muni has reroute plans in effect for buses. As of Wednesday afternoon, officials were working on evaluating repopulation of evacuated homes, according to SFFD.
