OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — One person died in a vehicle collision in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood Wednesday afternoon after fleeing the scene of an attempted robbery, according to the Oakland Police Department.

The incident took place on the 5900 block of Buena Vista Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene they found a dead person nearby. They later determined that the dead person is a suspect in an attempted robbery that took place earlier in the day.

Police say two suspects were in the process of taking property out of a victim’s vehicle. The victim was nearby and spotted the pair before attempting to take their property back from the suspects.

Both suspects attempted to flee the scene in a car, and in the process they struck a pole, according to police. OPD believes the man died on impact. The second suspect fled the scene and has not yet been found.
