SAN LEANDRO (KRON) -- A man was killed and a woman was injured after a shooting Wednesday night in San Leandro involving Alameda County sheriff's deputies.
According to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, a report of a theft in progress came into authorities at 4:40 p.m. near East 14th Street and 162nd Avenue.
When deputies arrived on scene, they found multiple suspects in a dark-colored SUV parked in the parking lot of a thrift store.
An Alameda County deputy tried to make contact with the man and woman inside the car. Officials say, the driver of the car then put the car in reverse toward deputies.
Three sheriff's deputies then fired shots toward the car. The male suspect was hit by gunfire, authorities say, and died at the scene.
The female suspect was taken to the hospital for her injuries.
There was also a dog inside the car -- but the animal was uninjured.
The deputies involved suffered minor injuries.
