(KRON) – One person died in an early morning police shooting in Berkeley on Monday, the Berkeley Police Department confirmed. The shooting occurred in the area of 7th and Grayson Street around 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

Officers responded to that area Monday morning for the report of an auto burglary in progress, police said. Several suspects were at the scene. One was detained by a BPD officer and the other two were determined to be in a car driving way.

Police said that car collided with a BPD car and continued to drive towards the officer. An officer then opened fire, BPD said.

The driver of the car was transported to Highland Hospital in critical condition. They later succumbed to their injuries. The car’s passenger was detained.

The two suspects were arrested and identified as a 37-year-old Novato man and a 30-year-old Oakland woman.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting.
