SAUSALITO (KRON) – All lanes of southbound highway 101 were blocked as of 4:52 a.m. Tuesday due to a fatal pedestrian collision.

The identity of the pedestrian was confirmed as Carlos Rios, 41 of Vallejo, by the Marin County Coroner’s office Wednesday.

Traffic stopped at the Spencer Avenue offramp; Rios was reported hit at 4:35 a.m.

All lanes had opened by 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from California Highway Patrol, which also stated that Rios was hit by a Dodge Caravan in the No. 3 lane.

The reason Rios was in the middle of the freeway is “still under investigation,” CHP states.

“The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene,” the press release continues. “The driver of the Dodge remained on scene and was cooperative in the investigation. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision at this time.”
