SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The suspect arrested in a fatal shooting near the Powell Street BART Station on Thursday night has been identified and charged with murder, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
A person was fatally shot near the Powell Street BART station Thursday night, the San Francisco Police Department confirmed. SFPD responded to the area of Powell Street and Market Street at about 8:39 p.m. They arrived to find a male victim with a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts by officers, paramedics, and hospital staff, the victim died at a local hospital.
A description of an unknown male suspect and unknown female that was with him was sent out by dispatch. Two subjects matching the descriptions were seen by an officer in the area of 8th and Mission Streets.
The officer saw them get into a taxicab and leave the area. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the taxi at 14th and Mission Streets. The male suspect, an adult, and the female, a juvenile, were detained without incident.
SFPD Homicide Detail took over the investigation and the male suspect was identified as 18-year-old Daveon Crawford of Sacramento. A firearm was also located in close proximity to Crawford and probable cause was developed to arrest him for the shooting.
The female juvenile was released to a guardian.
Crawford was taken to SF County Jail and booked for murder.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing, despite an arrest being made.
