CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) — A 24-year-old woman is dead and a juvenile was injured following a shooting on Highway 4 in Concord Saturday evening, authorities said.
The juvenile was in the front seat at the time of the shooting and is in moderate condition. An infant who was in the back of the car was unharmed.
CHP Contra Costa said the people inside the car at the time of the shooting were all related, but did not go further into the details of the relationship.
The shooting was reported around 6:35 p.m. on westbound Highway 4, just east of Port Chicago Highway.
One victim died and another suffered moderated injuries from gunshot wounds.
The victims were in a black Toyota Camry. As a result of the shooting, the Camry crashed into the metal guard rail at the top of the Port Chicago offramp.
The unknown suspect vehicle fled the scene.
CHP shut down all westbound lanes of Highway 4 in the area for scene processing and collection of evidence. All lanes were reopened Sunday morning.
Officials say they don’t have an estimated time of reopening the freeway, but expect it to be closed for at least a few hours.
This is an ongoing investigation.
