SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Anti Elon Musk protesters crowded the sidewalk outside the Tesla dealership in San Francisco Monday. Chanting things like, “Hey-hey, ho-ho, Trump and Musk have got to go,” protesters waved signs emblazoned with anti-Musk messaging like ‘Don’t Buy Nazi Cars,” “Our Democracy is Not a Startup,” and “No One Voted for Elon Musk.”

The demonstration was part of a national day of protest taking place across the country on the Presidents’ Day holiday Monday.

“The Bay Area has long known who Elon Musk truly is, and his new venture, his foray into fascism, needs to be stopped,” read a statement from the group behind the Tesla protest. The statement called for people to join in a nonviolent rally and “sign holding meetup” outside the dealership, “to let the entire city know that supporting Elon Musk is bad for Democracy, and to remind our entire community that his dangerous actions won’t be tolerated.”

Organizers called the demonstration a “peaceful action” and said they would not enter the business or stop anyone else from entering or exiting the showroom, which is located at 999 Van Ness Avenue.

Musk is the focus for thousands of Democratic activists launching a protest campaign this week to fight the Trump administration’s push to gut federal health, education and human services agencies.

Hundreds of protests are scheduled outside congressional offices and Tesla dealerships, with organizers hoping to send a pointed message to members of Congress who are on recess this week.

The backlash still hasn’t approached the intensity of protests during and after Trump’s first inauguration eight years ago. But a loose coalition of Democrats and progressives is coalescing around Musk’s rise as Trump’s top lieutenant and his purge of the federal bureaucracy.

“He’s a major weak link in the MAGA coalition,” Ezra Levin, co-founder of the progressive group Indivisible, said of Musk. “I can’t think of something that polls worse than the richest man in the world is coming after your Social Security check or your Meals on Wheels or your Head Start.”

Anti Trump, Musk protests across the Bay Area Monday

The Tesla protest is one of several taking place across the Bay Area Monday. Protesters also gathered outside San Francisco City Hall to protest President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

Monday marks the second time in the past few days anti-Musk protesters have congregated outside the Tesla showroom. A similar protest broke out in the same location on Saturday.

In the South Bay, protesters also rallied against President Trump in San Jose.

Across the Bay in Oakland, more than 1,000 protesters fanned out along Grand Avenue from the Grand Lake Theater to Lake Merritt, carrying signs that read “Not My President,” “Dangerous Oligarchs Grab Everything (DOGE)” and “No Kings, No Nazis.” Some protesters gathered first in the city’s Fruitvale District for a “Not My Presidents’ Day” rally organized by Revcom Corps, before a march and ride out to Lake Merritt.

“We’re just two moms who got sick of waiting for something to happen. We’re not professional organizers,” said Andrea Muchin, an Oakland floral designer who worked with attorney Heather Haggarty to bring protesters to the event.

Comic W. Kamau Bell also showed up at the Oakland protest, at Splash Pad Park across from the Grand Lake Theater.
