San Jose police shoot, kill suspect in stolen car after officer injured

A man was killed by San Jose police Saturday afternoon after he drove a stolen car in the officers’ direction, striking one of them, authorities said.

At approximately 12:55 p.m. officers responded to the area of Kollmar Dr. and Story Rd. to locate a stolen vehicle.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the vehicle in the rear carport area of an apartment complex.

Authorities say the vehicle was occupied by a man and no passengers were in the car.

Three officers blocked in the stolen vehicle and gave the suspect commands.

The suspect did not comply with the officers’ commands and drove his vehicle in their direction, police said.

One of the officers was struck by the car and was pinned between the stolen vehicle and a parked car.

Authorities say all three officers fired at the suspect, striking him at least once.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The officer that had been hit by the stolen vehicle, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The other two officers were not injured during the incident.

The suspect’s identity has not been released yet.

The involved officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and the San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a joint criminal investigation.
