3-year-old boy injured in Oakland shooting identified

OAKLAND (KRON) - A 3-year-old boy was injured in a shooting in Oakland on Wednesday night, police said.

The family has identified the boy as Nigel Washington.

The shooting happened at around 9:38 p.m. in the 1600 block of 80th Avenue, according to police.

Police found the three-year-old from San Leandro with head injuries they say were caused by bullet fragments.

The child was riding in a car with his mother when shots were fired at the car.

Investigators say the family had just attended a memorial service for a homicide victim who was killed in June.

The boy is recovering at Oakland Children's Hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

The gunman is still on the loose.

Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
